Uncle George's Lady Friend

Uncle George liked his women
loud and flashy
to match his shirts

At the family picnic
a toomuch woman perched on George's arm.
Too much makeup
jewelry
drink
leg.

Knees together
the aunts lined the tables
talked about
ways to remove tomato stains from tablecloths
how to reduce fever during teething.

With her crest of red hair
white frilly blouse
the woman sat silent,
a cockatoo among hens.

She kissed
all the children goodbye.
Mom wiped off the lipstick
using kleenex and spit,
then rekissed us all.
